Traveled: Redang Island, Malaysia

This year I really have not been traveling much… So I was super happy when I managed to arrange a short trip to Redang during the long weekend.

I’ve been craving to go Redang for the longest time, but somehow it never happened. But damn, it was so worth going! The beach and water there are AH-MAI-ZIIIIIING! Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I would have not believed it’s possible for a beach this pristine to exist. The water was perfect turquoise, crystal clear and calm. You could see fishes meters away from you!

Picture-perfect beach.

Spacious room.

I stayed at Taaras Beach & Spa Resort, and got the most amazing room ever, with a breath taking cliff view. The resort itself is pretty neat and new. The service standard might be a bit lagging (waited over an hour for a pizza in their restaurant and bugging the waiter multiple times did not help… Or although I confirmed twice that I want to check out at 3:30 pm, at 2:20 I still got a phone-call urging me to check out before 2:30 :| ), and the prices high, but I still thought it was worth it.

The best part about staying at Taaras was the super easy access to the most beautiful beach ever. And just meters away from the coast there is a coral reef you can basically explore on your own! It’s full of beautiful coral (still pretty much alive… not the dead coral forest like in Krabi), fishes (I swear I saw a tiny shark! Well… not tiny… it was a size of a medium dog), and well… slugs. Plenty of sea slugs. Huge, massive, fat sea slugs xD.

I’m not a big fan of swimming with the fishes – after going to Krabi, and being assured by my friends who do diving, that fishes will not try to touch me, I was traumatized when the Krabi fishes would swarm around people, nibble them, and generally bump into them. BRRRR! Such a horrible sensation, when the cold, slimy, buoyant fishes bounce against your hands, legs and face! So to experience the reef in Redang I actually chose to paddle to the reef on a kayak and admire the fishes and slugs from a distance.

Made a sand castle... Just minutes after I stepped away from it, some mini-Godzilla kid destroyed it T_T

Dining on the beach?

If it's ok to show it off at the beach, it's ok to show it off on the blog, right? ;D

I’m very lazy, so rather than travel by bus/ferry I decided to just buy plane ticket. Funny thing, the Berjaya airlines did not have a good offer for two way tickets – the returning flight was to be though KL, and total package cost was 1,4k SGD+! But if you bought a flight to Redang, then the return to KL, and from there grab a Firefly to SG, then the cost was less than 1k.

To sum it up – I totally LOVED it! So much better than overcrowded beaches in Thailand! And the ban on water-sports like jet-ski made the place so delightfully tranquil and relaxing! The reef was in good condition and I did not feel pangs of guilt for joining the mass demolition of the place – a feeling I experience all too well when visiting the Phi Phi Islands.

Ah, I wanna go back for more! Wish the flights were less exp tho….
