Review: Ginvera Marvel Gel

Please note that this is not an advertorial. I have bought the product for my own money and out of my own will. The opinion presented below is my own, and not influenced by anybody.

Almost a month ago I wrote about purchasing two Ginvera products: the famous “Marvel Gel” and a night moisturizing cream of the same series.

First up for the review: the “Marvel Gel”

What the producer promises: The gel is supposed to allow for deep skin exfoliation and “magical” rubbing away of black-heads. The peeling is also meant to prime the skin for better absorbing of other moisturizers and skincare products.

How it worked for me: I don’t have many black heads, but my skin is dry, dull and I have lots of dilated pores (specially on my nose and cheek area) which are often clogging up and visible after applying foundation. Upon application of the gel it behaves rather uniquely: it’s like a mix of a classical scrub with a peel-off mask. When you rub it against your skin, it forms little lumps of product that remind me of bits of a peel-off mask.

What I liked: So did the product made my skin black-head free? Nope. But did it make my pores smaller, my skin smoother and put my T-zone in total control? YES! It did not happen over-night, but after two weeks of daily evening rubs, I noticed how my skin became much more clear and radian. Also, when I apply foundation the pores are no longer visible. I also noticed improvement in healing process of the skin, and better absorption of moisturizers.

What I didn’t like: To be honest, there is not much I disliked about this product. But I have to admit it’s pretty harsh, and one of my blog readers Teng, reported that it made her skins swollen and irritated to the point where she had to visit a skin specialist. I also noticed that after first few uses there was some redness and irritation to the skin, but in my case, that issue disappeared quickly. But it is a warning sign, that if your skin is prone to irritation, then this product might be too harsh for you.

Summary: Great product, and dirty cheap ( $16,90 !). It’s a great idea to have it for either regular exfoliation, or just occasional re-freshing of the skin. I think people with oily skin would appreciate this product best, as it helps keep the pores clean and under control.

  • I tried this product before (old version). It’s quite effective in removing dead cells. Suits oily skin – this I can confirm.

  • added you under random read. haha. :) I don’t have a makeup / beauty sub-category, otherwise you’ll be first on the list. hmmm. maybe i should have one. HAHA

  • I’m currently using their Marvel gel too, but not this green tea one..not bad. Will try this out after finish. :)

My mum love this Mravel gel ! I tried also but my is the whitening Marvel gel!

  • Just thought I’d share my experience with the older style Marvel Gel and my thoughts on it after using it for a while.

First time I used it, it looked kinda gross seeing all my dead skin cells rubbing off and yes, my skin did become mildly red but it went down after a few minutes and left my skin feeling so smooth and soft. I actually have very oily skin with large pored and acne and I found that after 1 month of using this product every 2 days along with another facial wash my skin was clearing up fantastically.

The only Issue I have with Ginvera is that its not really made that available in Australia and you virtually have to go from store to store in the hopes that someone will actually have it in stock or be able to order it in. :S
